Curriculum
For over a decade, Pineapple Cove Academy has been an established name in the child care field. It has become a trusted home for families looking to find a safe, nurturing, and instructive environment for their children. At Pineapple Cove, we believe in educating young minds through structured, age-appropriate experiences, which allows them to reach their developmental milestones.
Educational Philosophy
Research has shown that children are able to achieve their highest level of learning through enriched play. This is why Pineapple Cove Academy has carefully chosen hands-on curriculums that meet the needs of our different age groups. Our teachers are trained to create well-rounded, and carefully developed lessons that nurture a child’s love of learning. When implemented in a structured, educational setting this combination prepares children for future social and academic success.
Education and Knowledge Through Structured and Interactive Lessons
Pineapple Cove Academy offers our students and families a balance of educational, curriculum-based content with purposeful play, both in and outside of the classroom. We want our children to be able to engage in a variety of experiences that promote a child’s intrinsic need to explore their environment around them while building strong, early academic skills.
In addition, our teachers provide a safe and nurturing environment where children get to voice their opinion, learn how to problem solve, and develop their interests through a range of hands-on experiences. Each classroom’s customized lesson plans emphasize the educational and developmental needs of the students. Our focus is on implementing instructive learning opportunities that encompass activities in literacy, math, science, art and sensory play. All of our teachers encourage their students to be independent, make their own choices, explore their passions and flex their creativity and critical thinking skills. This empowers children to become confident, happy, self-aware individuals that have a true love of learning. Pineapple Cove Academy believes in implementing education that sets up a platform of success for all children.
Infants - 2 yr-olds
This age group thrives on exploring their environment to gain knowledge. This is why we have chosen to utilize The Creative Curriculum® to help foster these early learning skills that are so important to a child’s growth and educational journey. The Creative Curriculum® is specifically designed to help teachers and caregivers implement developmentally appropriate practices and offer meaningful experiences that nurture learning and development. The philosophy behind this wonderful curriculum guides our teachers to develop hands-on, interactive activities for your child that focuses on exploration and discovery as a method of learning.
3 to 4 yr-olds
At this stage in their journey, children are ready to be challenged academically to help strengthen their cognitive abilities. Therefore, our Core Knowledge® curriculum is the perfect match for this age group. This curriculum provides skill driven themes that allow our teachers to deliver support and effective direction for our young students. Core Knowledge® is essentially based on the idea that we acquire new knowledge built on what we already know. Our teachers use those measures to implement lessons in social skills, language and literacy, math, science, and the creative arts. Building these skills in an enriched learning environment and through a structured daily routine, prepares each child for their journey into VPK and beyond.
VPK-4 to 5 yr-olds
Our VPK students are ready to refine their early learning skills which will prepare them for their transition to Kindergarten. The SRA Imagine It! curriculum helps our certified teachers deliver a well-rounded, instructive experience through a variety of themed units. This curriculum emphasizes oral and written language skills which will lay the foundation for a child’s success in their educational journey. We complement the core of our curriculum with enriched lessons in science, art, social studies, math and classical literature. In addition, our teachers enhance their student’s experience through hands-on, interactive learning centers. These centers provide a platform for children to exercise their creativity, cognitive reasoning, and problem-solving skills. The combination of these components creates an exciting and fun environment that nurtures a child’s love of learning.
Singapore Math® (School Wide)
The idea behind Singapore Math® is that it creates true mastery of skills rather than memorization. Of course, this means something different for each of our age groups. When our teachers implement these lessons in the classroom, they are creating a hands-on experience that utilizes tactile objects. The skills that Singapore Math® fosters in a preschool environment are:
- Number Sense – Counting of objects with the help of a teacher, which will develop into the ability to count by touching independently. Eventually this skill will move into the ability to count without touching, and finally to recognize small quantities without counting.
- Number Bonds – Understanding of what makes up a number and how we can put numbers together.
- Math talk – Language is essential to learning and math is no different. By developing a child’s mathematical language we reinforce the concepts being taught.
Apple Accreditation
In general, early childhood programs that are A.P.P.L.E. accredited have demonstrated a commitment to providing high quality programs for young children and their families. The accreditation process requires each school to meet specific quality standards in areas such as interactions among teachers and children, staff to child ratios, developmental appropriateness of the curriculum, staff qualifications, health and safety, and administration. It also requires schools to undergo a validation process to verify their compliance with APPLE guidelines which may be more stringent than state licensing requirements.

Gold Seal Accreditation
In 1996 the Florida Legislature established the Gold Seal Quality Care program to acknowledge child care facilities that are accredited by recognized agencies and whose standards reflect quality in the level of care and supervision provided to children. Participating child care facilities are required to maintain quality care accreditation and higher education standards for staff. Excellence is expected in the areas of ratio, teacher & staff qualifications, staff training and professional development, director requirements, curriculum implementation, learning environment, social development, literacy support, health & safety, teacher-child interactions, program operations, and family interactions.
